    Chesterfield County Department of Transportation is proposing an undertaking to construct a new 1.2-mile two-lane access road and bridge with a shared use path for bikers and pedestrians over an oxbow to the James River. The applicant’s stated purpose is to provide access to Henricus Park while the existing park access road (Coxendale Road) is closed to accommodate closure of the existing coal ash ponds at the Dominion Energy Chesterfield County Power Station. The project will adversely the Ware Bottom Church Battlefield. In compliance with regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Norfolk District is soliciting comments on the proposed project from the public; federal, state, and local agencies and officials; Native American Tribes; and other interested parties. This public notice provides an opportunity for members of the public to express their views on the undertaking’s effects on historic properties and resolution of adverse effects. Public comments should be received by the close of business on June 16, 2023.

  • NAO-2010-02117 / VMRC 22-1295 (U.S. Navy Little Creek, Virginia Beach)

    The U.S. Navy (Navy) plans to perform maintenance dredging of the Joint Expeditionary Base (JEB) Little Creek Channel and CB 125 Wet Slip at JEB Little Creek located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Navy proposes to: 1) maintenance dredge by mechanical means approximately 89,067 cubic yards from Little Creek Channel to a maximum dredging depth of -24 ft MLLW; 2) maintenance dredge by mechanical means approximately 861 cubic yards from the CB-125 Wet Slip to a maximum dredging depth of -12 ft MLLW; and 3) place approximately 14,000 cubic yards of suitable dredged material, capped with 20,000 cubic yards of armor stone within scour holes at Piers 11,12, and 13, covering 3.4 acres of subaqueous bottom. Public comments should be received by the close of business July 27, 2022.

    A 408 review request has been received from the City of Virginia Beach to replace an existing “Brainwaves” exhibit panel at 16th St., and add a new exhibit panel at 24th St. and 30th St. respectively, along the boardwalk at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.  The panels, materials and method of installation are the same or similar as the street informational signage that are in place at each of the beach access locations. The action being considered is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia and has the potential to impact the Virginia Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project. Comments are due by July 8, 2022.
  • Section 408 Review of Sand Maintenance and Structural Activities, Sandbridge Beach, Virginia Beach, Virginia

    Interested parties are hereby notified of a request for permission to alter a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project pursuant to Section 14 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 (33 U.S.C. Section 408) that has been received and will be evaluated by the Norfolk District. The actions being considered are located in Sandbridge, Virginia Beach, Virginia and have the potential to impact the Sandbridge Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project. The actions  proposed at 2828 and 3608 Sandfiddler Road include sand maintenance activities to remove excess sand that has migrated onto private property and the relocation of sand back onto Sandbridge beach.  The action proposed at 3520 Sandfiddler Road includes sand maintenance activities and the construction of a bulkhead and return walls. Comments are due by May 23, 2022.
