FORT NORFOLK, Va. – Fort Norfolk will close to visitors from Oct. 14 to Dec. 12 as contractors perform various maintenance and repairs to the historic War of 1812-era coastal fortification.

SDC Group Inc., an 8a service-disabled small business company based in Norfolk, will repair and replace selected concrete sidewalks; clean and replace damaged gutters and spouts; replace deteriorating wooden stairs; install boundary safety signs around the fort’s perimeter wall; and complete other miscellaneous repairs.

The maintenance and repairs are part of several larger efforts begun in 2010 to protect and preserve the historic fabric of Fort Norfolk.
