NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has scheduled aerial mosquito treatment for 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 17 over the federal property on Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Eastern Aviation LLC – the district’s contractor – will use a fixed-wing aircraft for aerial application of a granular larvicide that targets developing mosquito larvae in the area.

If weather conditions prevent spraying on June 17, the makeup date is June 18.

Beekeepers in affected areas do not need to keep bees covered during spraying operations, as the chemical used does not affect bees.

The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area and can be reached at 757-393-8666.
