    Army Corps of Engineers Releases Work Plan for Fiscal Year 2023 Civil Works Appropriations

    WASHINGTON - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) delivered to Congress its Fiscal Year 2023 (FY 2023) Work Plan for the Army Civil Works program Feb. 27. "The FY 2023 Work Plan for Army Civil Works continues the administration’s substantial investments in projects and actions that will strengthen supply chains and the economy by adding capacity at the nation’s waterways and ports, build resilience to the impacts of climate change by reducing flood risks of communities and restoring the aquatic environment, and promote equity in underserved communities consistent with the President’s Justice40 Initiative,” said Michael Connor, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works.

  • Notice of Comment Period Extension (Mountain Valley Pipeline)

    USACE published on December 12, 2022 for public comment a supplemental Public Notice to Mountain Valley Pipeline, LLC’s proposal to discharge dredged and/or fill material into waters of the United States and work in and under navigable waters of the United States associated with the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The public comment period on this proposal was extended until February 10, 2023 via public notice of December 20, 2022.  The public comment period on this proposal is being extended an additional 15 days until February 25, 2023 to allow additional time for review of additional documents being provided for the benefit of public awareness and to inform any further comments on the proposed project.
  • NAO-2018-00983 (Luck Stone Crewe Quarry, Nottoway, Virginia)

    Luck Stone Corporation requests authorization to permanently impact 0.85 acres of palustrine non-tidal wetlands and 7,496 linear feet of stream channel for the construction of a granite quarry pit with appurtenant facilities. The project is located on 334.9 acres along the southern side of Hudson Road and Eleven Oaks Road down to Lazaretto Creek in the Town of Crewe and Nottoway County, Virginia. Comments should be received by the close of business on March 11, 2023.

    Atlantic Development Associates LLC is proposing to construct a townhome development at 580 and 608 Dam Neck Road in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It will impact 1.98 acres of palustrine forested wetlands associated with Lake Redwing. Comments on this project should be received by the close of business on March 12, 2023.
  • Section 408 Review of Sand Management Activities, Sandbridge Beach, Virginia Beach, Virginia

    Interested parties are hereby notified that multiple requests for permission to alter a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project pursuant to Section 14 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 (33 U.S.C. Section 408) have been received and will be evaluated by the Norfolk District.  The actions being considered are located in Sandbridge Beach, Virginia Beach, Virginia and have the potential to impact the Sandbridge Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project.  The primary actions being considered include sand maintenance activities to remove excess sand that has migrated onto private property and place it back onto Sandbridge Beach. Written comments, including any objections to the proposed alteration, stating reasons therefore, are being solicited from anyone having an interest in the requested alteration and should be received by February 21, 2023.

  • Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area: Potential Impacts on Future Deposits Due to Limited Capacity

    Due to limited capacity, the Norfolk District anticipates that acceptance of future deposits of dredged material into the CIDMMA, including deposits into the rehandling basin, will need to be deferred indefinitely until completion of the Norfolk Harbor Navigation Improvements Project, Inner Harbor Channels, and Anchorage F, and sufficient capacity is constructed to resume normal operations and dredged material inflows. With the exception of previous commitments for utilization of the rehandling basin, all other deposits are expected to be deferred through calendar year 2024 at a minimum.
  • USACE Release of the Draft Chesapeake Bay Oyster Restoration Program Great Wicomico River Supplemental Environmental Assessment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Commonwealth of Virginia, acting through its agent, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, announce the release of the Draft Chesapeake Bay Oyster Recovery Program Great Wicomico River Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA). This Draft SEA evaluates alternatives that have the potential to improve the current and future function of eight restored reefs in the Great Wicomico River, Virginia. The study recommends expanding one reef, upgrading low-relief areas (2-4 inches high) of several reefs using small, 3-inch stone to a height of 12 inches, and adding large stones for additional habitat. Public comments should be submitted by Feb. 28, 2023.
