    Fauquier County Parks and Recreation is proposing the construction of a public recreational sports complex. The project would include the construction of five rectangular ball fields, six diamond ball fields, a volleyball court, a skating facility and associated storage, maintenance, and restroom facilities. The proposed work also includes the construction of the supporting infrastructure including an access road to the facility, parking areas, stormwater management facilities, and utilities.   • Gathright Dam officials cancel pulse release

    Officials at the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have canceled Wednesday's pulse release at Gathright Dam. The Norfolk District, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, determined that recent rainfall eliminated the need for the second planned pulse release of the year.

  • Controlled flood release ends at Gathright Dam

    Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia will end its controlled flood storage release today. Beginning this morning at 9 a.m., operators at the dam will begin to reduce the release, which is currently at 1,530 cubic feet per second, to 600 cubic feet per second by 11 a.m.

    Great Bridge Lock to close temporarily July 1 to conduct final repairs

    The Great Bridge Lock on the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal will temporarily close to vessel traffic from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 1, to facilitate diving and crane operations to remove cofferdam and return lock to full operation.

    The city of Newport News proposes to construct an approximately 1.2-mile, four-lane divided roadway and bridge over the CSX railroad and Interstate 64 (I-64) with sidewalks and shared-use paths for bicycle and pedestrian access.     Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia continues a controlled flood storage release today. Beginning this morning at 9 a.m., operators at the dam will begin to reduce the release, which is currently at 3,480 cubic feet per second, to 1,600 cubic feet per second by 1 p.m.

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began a controlled flood release at Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia at 9 a.m. today. The flow will gradually increase from 1,210 cubic feet per second to 3,500 cubic feet per second by 1 p.m.
