Boring Tree Sample
ARLINGTON, Va. – Paul Carter, a Norfolk District forester, takes a bore sample of a fallen red oak tree in the Arlington National Cemetery’s Millennium Project boundaries here, Feb. 6, 2013. Carter is investigating the age of the trees to ensure the initial estimates on tree ages, documented in the project’s environmental assessment, are correct. The Millennium Project will add 27 acres to the cemetery and nearly 30,000 additional burial and niche spaces. (U.S. Army photo/Patrick Bloodgood)
