Fort Norfolk Oyster Reef
Norfolk District and Chesapeake Bay Foundation employees unload 60 bushels of oyster shell at Fort Norfolk April 2, 2012. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation delivered the 60 bushels to support the oyster restoration efforts of the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and fourth graders from Virginia Beach’s Seatack Elementary School. The district and the school partnered in 2011 to grow baby oysters in floats and this spring they will build an oyster reef to help restore the oyster population and improve the health of the Elizabeth River and the Chesapeake Bay.
