Ava L. Benson
Chief, Mission Support Division
Ms. Ava L. Benson has served the federal government for nearly 30 years of combined service with the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Army Corps of Engineers. Prior to her current assignment, Ms. Benson served as chief, Resource Analysis Branch in the Resource Management Office. She has served as the Norfolk District manpower officer and a program/project manager in various district and regional special assignments, including such complex areas as the Defense Department’s Competitive Sourcing Program.
Ms. Benson is a native of Chesapeake, Va. She graduated from Norfolk State University in 1983, where she received an undergraduate degree in Office Administration. She has completed numerous continuing education courses in Business Management and Interdisciplinary Studies. She is a graduate of the Department of Army Intern program and the USDA Leadership Development Graduate School. She is currently serving as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Proponent-Sponsored Engineer Corps Training (PROSPECT) course instructor.
As the Chief, Mission Support Division, Ms. Benson has responsibility for managing and leading the district’s nationalized functions of contracting, information management, human resources and logistics, and exercising staff supervision of equal employment and security. She serves as a principle advisor and consultant to the district commander on all mission support matters.
Ms. Benson is a member of the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) and the Federally Employed Women (FEW).
